Alishan National Scenic Area

Alishan (阿里山) has become one of the major landmarks in Taiwan. It is well-known for the sunrise which can be seen in Chushan (祝山). Alishan Forest Railway offers train services from Alishan Station to Chushan which start operating at pre-dawn. There's a platform right next to the station where visitors can wait for the sunrise.




On the way back to Alishan, one can opt to ride the train back or one can skip the train and walk back for a pleasant downhill hike.




Back to Alishan Station, continue the adventure by taking the paths and trails to witness the picturesque scenery Taiwan has to offer.




Attractions, aside from the sunrise, include the Two Sister's Ponds, Giant Trees Trail, the heart-shaped Love Tree, Three-Generation Tree, Elephant Trunk and Shoujhen Temple among others.

Xitou Forest Recreation Area

Xitou Forest Recreation Area is one of the seven experiment forests of National Taiwan University. It is established in 1970. The name "Xitou" means "Origin of Stream".









Xitou Forest Recreation Area is also known as "Honeymoon Scenic Area" due to its popularity as the most romantic place for newlyweds to spend their honeymoon.







Xitou Forest Recreation Area is full of old giant trees which mainly includes Cunninghamia Lancelata, Cypress, Gingko Trees and Moso Bamboo and many other different kinds of trees. Most parts of the area have been developed and cultivated purposely.








Weather in Xitou is cool and moist all the year round. Thus, it is a famous resort spot during summer. Another representative sightseeing spot in Xitou is the University Pond which has a depth of 10 meters.

Chihkan Tower

Formerly known as Fort Provintia, Chihkan Tower was built during the Dutch colonization of Taiwan. It is considered as one of the best preserved or reconstructed historical sites in Taiwan, making it one of Taiwan's Tier-One heritages.



This fort was then surrendered to Koxinga when he recovered Taiwan. On 1945, it was renamed Chihkan Tower which means "Red-topped Tower".








Standing next to Chihkan Tower is the Wenchang Temple. It is home to the Statue of the God of Literature where a lot of students pray.







Chihkan Tower is open everyday from 8:30 am - 9:00 pm. Ticket costs 50 NTD for adults and 25 NTD for children. It is located in 212 Minzu Road, City Centre, Tainan, Taiwan.
