National Palace Museum (國立故宮博物院) exhibits priceless Chinese art treasures. It is the world's largest collection which spans China's nearly 5,000-year history. It houses 693,507 pieces of ancient Chinese artifacts and artworks.
The building was designed by Huang Baoyu (黃寶瑜) and constructed from 1964-1965. It underwent numerous renovations until it re-opened on Christmas day of 2006.
The most famous item in the museum is the Jadeite Cabbage (翠玉白菜). It is a piece of jadeite carved into the shape of Chinese cabbage with a large and small grasshopper camouflaged in its leaves. Unfortunately cameras are not allowed inside the museum so no pictures of the Jadeite Cabbage and other artifacts and artworks inside.
Exibiton 1 (Main Building) is open daily from 8:30 am - 6:30 pm. Admission is free on Saturday nights from 6:30 am - 8:30 pm. Tickets cost 160 NTD for regular visitors. For more information on visiting hours and ticket prices, visit their website http://www.npm.gov.tw/en/visiting/visit/hours.htm.
