National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall

This Memorial Hall which is located at Ren-ai Road, Taipei, is built to commemorate Dr. Sun Yat-sen as the founding father of the Republic of China. The main structure of the Memorial Hall was completed on May 16, 1972.

Situated on the first floor of the hall is the Bronze Statue of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. It has a total height of 8.9 meters and a total weight of 16.7 tons. A popular attraction here is the formal changing of the guards. The Army, Navy and Air Force take turns to serve as honor guards.

Dr. Sun Yat-sen History Rooms are also located on the first floor. The East Room displays the document related with Dr. Sun Yat-sen founding the Republic of China. While the West Room shows the documents related to Dr. Sun Yat-sen and Taiwan.

On the second floor of the hall is where the Chungshan Natioanl Gallery is at. It often holds significant international and national exhibitions.

Another two galleries are placed on the third floor which are De-ming Gallery and Yat-sen Gallery. Yat-sen Gallery holds joint displays of art association.

More galleries are on the basement floor which includes Jih-hsin Gallery, Tswei-xi Gallery. Tswei-heng Gallery and Tzai-chih Exhibition Room. Aside from these galleries, this hall houses an auditorium which has a seating capacity of 2500. It is the largest concert hall in Taiwan.

National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is open everyday from 9 am to 9 pm, except on the eve and on the first day of Lunar New Year as well as during electrical maintenance days. Admission is also free.
